I am relatively new to the board of Community Living St. Marys and Area (CLSMA), joining the board after stepping down in 2022 from 12 years as a school board trustee for the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB). In my role as a trustee on a board that emphasized inclusion, I learned of some of the work of Community Living through serving on the board’s Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for all 12 years and jumped at the opportunity to join CLSMA when there was a vacancy on the Board.

In addition to sitting on SEAC, for four of those years I was the AMDSB Director for the provincial association, Ontario Public School Boards Association, and greatly appreciated the broader perspective and advocacy of a provincial organization.

I obtained my BA from the University of Western Ontario and currently, together with my husband, own a business supplying equipment, software and training for people with disabilities, primarily visual and learning. However, as the need for our technical expertise diminishes with advances in technology, I have increased my community involvement. As well as sitting on the CLSMA Board, I am currently the treasurer on the board of the St. Marys Farmers’ Market, and in my second term on the Town of St. Marys Green Committee, positions that help keep me current on the concerns and needs of our community.
