Inclusive Education


Community Living Ontario has a long history of advocating for inclusive education, where students with disabilities learn alongside their peers in the regular classroom, with appropriate and evidence-based support.  

Ontario's Ministry of Education Has a Policy on Seemingly Almost Everything - But Not on Solitary Confinement for Kids: In Ontario, there is no provincial legislation, policy, or guidance addressing the use of restraint and involuntary seclusion on children with disabilities in schools. This puts Ontario out of line with other jurisdictions, and is placing the mental health, quality of life, and learning outcomes of students at severe risk.

Kids Not Ready for School, Schools Not Ready for Kids: This article explores how gaps in Ontario’s education and developmental services systems are leaving many students with disabilities without the support they need. Drawing on findings from Community Living Ontario’s Crisis in the Classroom report, it highlights concerns around school readiness, long waitlists, restraint and seclusion, and the need for schools to better welcome and support all children.
