Sharks and capsizing won’t stop determined dad from raising funds for Community Living

Toronto, ON – Port Hope resident Colin Sanders has officially passed the halfway mark on his incredible 4,000-kilometre solo Atlantic Ocean row from the Canary Islands to Antigua in support of Community Living Ontario and people who have an intellectual disability. The 64-year-old is raising funds to support community inclusion for people like his son, Jeff, who has intellectual and physical disabilities.

Sanders set out from Puerto de Mogán on December 10th, 2017, under the banner of A Million Possibilities: Solo Ocean Row 2017, in collaboration with Community Living Ontario. He is determined to see his mission through, persevering in the face of sharks, faulty equipment, and even the capsizing of his boat, Socks II, three weeks into his journey!

In a recent blog post, the technical sock and apparel salesman said that his favourite part of his adventure so far has been “The solitude, wildlife and stars. I can’t get over how bright the stars are at sea.” When he reaches the Caribbean, Sanders will be one of less than 30 people to ever row the Atlantic solo.

The campaign has raised over $130,000 since its April kickoff. A Million Possibilities aims to raise $1 million for Community Living Ontario’s advocacy work over the coming years. It is generously sponsored by Ocean’s, Nite Ize, CSBT, McDougall Insurance and Financial, Frank Cowan Company, and Bollin Group Inc.
