Leanne Wheatstone

Director at Large

A long-standing Board of Director with Kenora Association for Community Living, Leanne Wheatstone is a former member of the Special Education Advisory Committee with the Keewatin Patricia District School Board for over 10 years representing KACL. She is also a former executive member of Special Olympics – Kenora. Most of her professional career has been in the capacity of staff support and she presently works for the Ontario Provincial Police as a Civilian Data Entry Clerk. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, graduating with a Diploma in Visual Arts – Graphic Design.

It was the diagnosis of Autism her daughter received about 23 years ago that motivated Leanne’s involvement with organizations within her community that support children and adults who have an intellectual disability. As a parent, she knows how challenging the school system can be when advocating for the rights of a family member during the years they attend school and has firsthand experience with the challenges families face as their children become adults. She brings to the Board the perspective of families who reside in somewhat isolated communities and the challenges they may encounter because of geography. Leanne is ready to get involved at the provincial level.

Kenora has always been home and it’s where she and her husband chose to stay and raise their two adult children.
