Facing The Future Together in Northern Ontario

On October 4 to 6, Re:Action4Inclusion hosted its very first Northern Youth Summit. The event took place at the Intervarsity Pioneer Camp in Port Sydney.

In partnership with three members organizations, we welcomed youth delegates from across Ontario to join us for one weekend. Almaguin Highlands Community LivingCommunity Living Huntsville and Community Living North Bay went above and beyond to build a community event for youth to explore their leadership, to broaden their networks and to empower young people to be resilient changemakers!

We asked the youth to think about tough questions. In response, they identified a greater need for people to build curiosity for others and to find ways to get to know people outside of their immediate social circles. Consistently, youth said that segregated settings limited opportunities to widen their social circles. They were very clear, they wanted to be with their peers.

On Saturday afternoon, the entire group discovered the joy of building community and of challenging one another as they explored outdoor leadership activities that were facilitated by the venue’s staff. The event’s activities and discussions completely reinforced for everyone in attendance that being intentional about how we build community leads to meaningful inclusion and opportunities to empower one another.

With a strong vision for a more inclusive Ontario, it was clear that young people are powerful partners of the Community Living movement.
