Help students like Omar match their passion with purpose on #GivingTuesday with a donation to Community Living Ontario or support Student Links by becoming a mentor.
By making a financial commitment to Community Living Ontario, you are assisting youth like Omar Shehadeh. Omar loves taking pictures. That much is evident from his work presented at Community Living Ontario’s 6th Annual COMMENCE Conference this past winter. His photography showcased stunning lakeside sunsets, autumn forests with freshly fallen leaves and towering cityscapes.
Michelle Chappus, his mentor, says “He has a great eye and he’s a natural at taking pictures. He’s always taking pictures.” Sherry, Community Living Ontario’s Student Links Coordinator for the Windsor-Essex Region matched Chappus, a member of the Windsor Camera Club, with Omar. Chappus is a retired teacher who loves photography and working with youth.
“Omar has opened up my eyes to the beauty around me, at times when I may have missed looking outside of the box from my own perspective.”
At Chappus’ urging, Omar joined the club and has been involved in three group shows. He’s found his passion for photography to be profitable, and he has started selling his work. As for the future, Omar plans on putting his skills to further use saying, “I probably want to be a wedding photographer.”
A whole new world of possibilities opened up for Omar and for many other youth across Ontario because of the Student Links initiative. You too can make a difference on #GivingTuesday. Your donation will help to support Community Living Ontario’s activities so that young people like Omar can find their passion and develop lasting relationships in their community.
