I want to share with you some important information that I recently received from Jim and Marilyn Dolmage regarding the number of Class Action Claims submitted (figures as of December 8, 2014). They are:
- Huronia Regional Centre – 1,723
- Rideau Regional Centre – 1,095
- Southwestern Regional Centre – 678
“This is an excellent result recognizing both the difficulty in finding and informing people. It appears to be about 40% of the total class action members. The original goal for Huronia was at least 1,000 claims, so we are well past that figure,” says Jim Dolmage.
“Credit is due, in large part to the lawyers for putting in place a well funded campaign. As well, the amount of free publicity through News Channels played a large role in making people aware. As well, your personal interest Chris and the involvement of Community Living Ontario to inform and encourage agencies played a major role. I know that your funding for Marie, Patricia, Marilyn and myself to travel and present also increased the claims numbers.”
“Eighty per cent of all claims fall into the B blogcategory of more serious abuse. There continue to be a significant number of contested/incomplete claims and we will receive more information about resolutions in the near future. We’ll keep you informed and appreciate the work that Brendon Pooran has done,” continues Dolmage.
